ULTRALIGHT-Q ™ TATTOO REMOVAL

Having second thoughts about your tattoo? Lakeway Dermatology utilizes the advanced UltraLight-Q ™ to lighten or remove unwanted tattoos. The powerful UltraLight-Q ™ shatters the ink while preserving healthy surrounding skin. After treatment the skin is more uniform and natural in appearance, although some changes in skin texture and color are unavoidable.

HOW THE ULTRALIGHT-Q ™ REMOVES A TATTOO

The UltraLight-Q ™ has special laser wavelengths that are attracted to tattoo ink. The laser system creates a beam of light that passes through the outer skin layers targeting only the embedded ink. Energy from the laser is rapidly absorbed by the ink, fracturing the tattoo into microscopic particles. Over time, the body's immune system cleans the particles from the skin and the tattoo begins to fade and eventually disappears.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL IT TAKE TO REMOVE MY TATTOO?

Not all body art is created alike; many factors are involved that determine the number of treatments needed, such as:

  • How long the tattoo has been in the skin. Newer tattoos are a little more resistant while older tattoos are easier to remove
  • The depth of ink in the skin
  • The type of ink in the skin. There are many different types of pigment that could have been used to create the tattoo
  • Was the tattoo created by a professional artist or an amateur?

Usually professional tattos will need at least seven treatments and possibly more than fifteen treatments while amateur tattoos take at least five treatments.  The sessions will be spaced eight weeks apart, allowing the body's immune system to naturally remove the pigment fragments.

WHAT WILL MY SKIN LOOK LIKE AFTER EACH TREATMENT?

Your skin will be red and feel like it has a mild sunburn. Bruising and blistering can occur and usually heals within a week. After each treatment, detailed care instructions will be given.

DOES LASER TATTOO REMOVAL LEAVE SCARS?

Occasionally treated skin will turn white. Those with scarring disorders, such as keloids, may have an increased risk of scar formation. Some inks also create a paradoxical reaction, causing the skin to become darker instead of lighter.

DOES LASER TATTOO REMOVAL HURT?

A Zimmer Chiller device is used during the procedure to blow very cold air on the tattoo to help numb the area. Additionally, topical anesthesia is applied.
